Update #2 from Intern Katy

So, it's been a good month and a half since I started here as an intern with the DNR show and I can't believe how fast it's going by!  When Romaine told me that my last blog update was February 9th, I was shocked at how much time has elapsed between now and then.

While I've been doing standard intern duties (ie: mailing, stocking the fridge, etc), I've also learned a shitload of awesome things.  My responsibilities here as an intern are rapidly growing and it's always thrilling to take a step forward and to be introduced to a new program or a new task.  I've learned how to do audio editing, I'm assiting Derek in creating the RSVP list for one of our upcoming events, I've improved greatly with show and call logs when we're in the studio, and that only covers what I've done over the past week.  I have learned so many other things of which I can't even keep track.  One thing is for sure, I'm super excited about learning how to work the boards int he studio under the guidance of Ishaq and Katie.

Of course, I still have some adjusting to do.  As Derek informed me last night, I need to recognize "time burglars" over the phone and stop being nice to said individuals.  I also have this bizzare curse where I can never find properly sized boxes for mailing out prizes and always go on a scavenger hunt around the office with Amber (DNR's producer) in an attempt to find boxes that aren't too big or too small.

In addition to being taught new things, I've also become aquainted with DNR regulars such as Stanton in Austin (one of our hilarious callers) and the fabulous Queen of Green aka Hedda Lettuce (she always brings us cookies btw which my sweet tooth can never deny).  I've even had the opportunity to meet Charo!  Not to mention, occasionally getting to be featured over the air is a really unique & awesome experience.

I can't wait to learn more here at the DNR show and so far everyone I have met here with OutQ and Sirius XM have been awesome.  I'm curious to see what the next few months will bring!

Intern Katy's First DNR Blog Post!

Hello bitches!  It's about that time I drop my first update on here about my experiences so far as an intern for the DNR show.  I'm more of a tweeter and less of a blogger and I hate writing about myself, so bare with me here hahaha.

Well now... where do I begin?

I'm a Communications/Media Studies major at the College of Staten Island.  Upon the start of my internship here with the DNR show, I had set a lot of learning goals for myself.
I wanted to
-learn the logistics of putting together a segment of a radio show.
-become an asset to the DNR show as well as the LGBT community
-broaden my knowledge about the political and personal aspects of the LGBT community
-broaden my knowledge on media studies

-become as involved and helpful as I possibly can for the DNR show
And ultimately
-take advantage of all and any opportunities that may present themselves

My first week and a half with the DNR show and Sirius radio has flown by!  And let me tell you, in that condensed period of time, I've already started to accomplish most of my goals!  I've become relatively acclimated with the DNR show logistics and as my time here progresses, I'm meeting more people, learning & perfecting new skills, and I'm having a blast while doing all of it.

Of course, I've had my fair share of mishaps.  While labelng CDs for the show one day, it took me a good 6 or 7 discs later to realize I had been labeling them on the wrong side.  Another one of my fuck ups was the reason why "Ray in Philly" was translated to "Billy in Philly."  Sorry guys!  I promise I'm getting it together now and I'm hoping my embarrassing fuck ups are becoming minimal as I become more alert and self aware.  Maybe one day I'll even share my hilariously embarassing ditzy moment during my interview with Romaine that I was pretty sure was going to cost me my chances as an intern.

I've also learned about some things that I wish I could have gone my whole life without knowing.... ahem, Hot Carls.

Anyway, this has been a great learning experience.  Derek, Romaine, Ishaq, and Katie have all been really helpful and have been great mentors.  I'm really excited to be here and I know by the end of my internship, I'll have accomplished all of my goals in full.

Until Next time,
Katy Irizarry

Chanel joins the Derek and Romaine Show!

Hello everyone! My name is Chanel and I am an intern at the Derek and Romaine Show.  I started my internship on January 31st and so far I AM LOVING IT!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I am an Arts major at SUNY Empire here in NYC.  I am a multi-tasker who enjoys motherhood full-time, while juggling modeling and college part time. I'm such a bohemian; you can catch me hangin' out in my favorite part of NYC: East Village. I would best describe myself as a hippie with a bubbly personality and a great outlook on life!

Honestly, it's hard to get any work done around here when I'm constantly laughing every 3 seconds. Derek is a riot and Romaine is a smart ass. I love them both.  The LGBT community can't ask for a better show!

Although this internship demands much of my time and dedication, it doesn't seem like work at all because I go home every night with a smile on my face.  I truly believe that a job isn't a job when it's something that you thoroughly enjoy.

This internship has great perks! I love taking phone calls from the listeners and I love Derek's witty punchlines. (Hee-Lar-Ree-Us).  I couldn't have asked for a greater opportunity!  There's so much work to do in so little time, but I hope to gain as much experience as possible.  So far I love interacting with the fans and talking on air (:

I want to take this time to say thanks to Derek, Romaine, Ishaq and Katie. A million thank yous, I won't let you down! ~Chanel
