Season of Giving

In 2013, Derek and Romaine spent a good deal of the their time helping to support a variety worthy causes. After all, how many times did you hear a guest who was in need of help with their crowd funding for their projects. Remember when Romaine raised money and then almost killed her navigator as she worked crew on the Cycle for the Cause? Plus, DNR put together their first charity auction of custom Vinylmations for the Family Equality Council at Gay Days Anaheim. Which is why this year instead of giving out DNR stockings we wanted to focus on what is really important during the holiday season. Giving.

Now, don't freak out just yet....Derek and Romaine will still be giving away plenty of prizes through out the month of December. But this year we are asking our listeners to help us continue this year of giving back to our community with one final act of kindness. We have selected three LGBT organizations who really need our help. Instead of giving away stockings this year we are asking the listeners to create care packages to help support LGBT homeless youth who otherwise will not get any gifts this year. And if you can't put together a care package you can make a donation to help put together care packages for LGBT members of the military who are currently deployed. Let's come together during this Season of Giving and help change the lives of those who need it most.

Here is how it works.
1. Pick an organization from the list below to support.
2. If you are creating a care package please buy items from the suggested lists below.
3. If you are making a monetary donation in lieu of a care package follow the link to make the donation.
4. Once you have assembled your care package take a picture of it and email it to us at: dnrshow@gmail.com so we can post it on our social networking sites.
5. Ship your care package to the address listed for your organization. Please write "DNR Season Of Giving" somewhere on the box.

We wouldn't ask you to do all of this for nothing so for all of the people who create a Season of Giving gift we will email you a special token of our appreciation. So make sure you email us your pictures of your care package or let us know if you made a donation and don'r forget to provide us an email address where we can send you our special Thank You gift.

Derek and Romaine want to thank all of our listeners for their continued support for the past 10 years. You never cease to amaze us and we know better then anyone the power of our listeners when we come together for a common cause. So let's make this Season of Giving really count and help some people who need it most.

L.A. is the nation’s number one destination for homeless and abandoned youth. Of the thousands who sleep on the streets here, a whopping 40% are LGBT boys and girls. And only one organization in Los Angeles is dedicated to serving them: the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.

We offer much more than life-sustaining support like food, clothing, medical care and a warm bed; we offer young people the help they need to get off the streets and make it on their own, including counseling, GED preparation, job placement assistance and mentoring.

No organization does more for LGBT youth … and sadly, the need has never been greater. Will you please make a generous donation today?

Please consider donating the following items:
·   New or gently used Backpacks
·  New underwear and socks, (men’s and women’s, tube socks and women’s tights are perfect)
·  New/Unopened Travel sized & hotel toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion)
·  Grocery store and/or coffee shop gift cards in $5 or $10 increments
·  Gently used casual clothes (all adult sizes)
·   Gently used professional attire for job interviews
·   Gently used winter coats and sweaters
·   Shoes in good condition (tied or taped together, please)

No food items, please.

 Tragically, as many as 25% of these teens are rejected by their families, and many end up homeless on the streets. Homeless LGBTQ teens are more likely than straight homeless teens to be subjected to violence on the streets, and in the homeless shelter system. They suffer from inordinate rates of mental illness, trauma, HIV infection and substance abuse.

The Ali Forney Center (AFC) was started in June of 2002 in response to the lack of safe shelter for LGBTQ youth in New York City. We are committed to providing these young people with safe, dignified, nurturing environments where their needs can be met, and where they can begin to put their lives back together.

AFC is dedicated to promoting awareness of the plight of homeless LGBTQ youth in the United States with the goal of generating responses on local and national levels from government funders, foundations, and the LGBTQ community.

Each year the Ali Forney Center provides holiday gifts for the youth in our housing programs, as well as the hundreds of kids on our waiting list.  For many of these kids this will be the only gift they receive for the holidays and possibly the only gift they have received in years.  Our goal is to brighten the holidays of these wonderful youth during what is typically a very depressing time in their lives.  Any support you can lend to helping us in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.

Please consider donating the following items:
  •  Gift Cards in $10 denominations to four AFC approved vendors (McDonalds, Starbucks, Old Navy, and iTunes).  We choose these vendors for very specific reasons: McDonald's - they are prevalent in NYC, they have a 1$ menu, and many of them are 24 hours.  This is a huge benefit for the hundreds of kids on our shelter waiting list.  Starbucks - They are everywhere!  We give these cards to our youth in the shelter program.  Many are in school or starting their first jobs and coffee is very necessary ;-),  Old Navy - also everywhere!  Teenage friendly clothing that is super affordable, and iTunes - so that the clients who get iPods can put music on them!
  •   New hats, gloves, and scarves
  •  New socks
  • School Supplies (notebooks, markers, etc)
  •  Candy!!!

Please Ship to:
The Ali Forney Center

Please Ship to:

The American Military Partner Association is the nation's premier resource and support network for the partners, spouses, and families of America's LGBT service members and veterans. Through education, advocacy, and support, AMPA is helping to make a difference in the lives of our modern military families. www.MilitaryPartners.org

Each year the American Military Partner Association helps put together care packages for members of our nation's military who are currently deployed. They have a dedicated list of LGBT soldiers who have signed up to receive packages and all donations raised by our Season of Giving will go to compile and ship care packages to those soldiers. So please make a donation today and help bring a little holiday cheer to those men and women who are fighting for our freedom this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Recipes!

Every year, Derek and Romaine talk about their favorite recipes and tips for Thanksgiving. Here are a few of them:

1. Brine Your Turkey!
It is fairly easy to brine a turkey and it will make for a moist and delicious turkey. Martha Stewart has a terrific brine recipe that Derek and Romaine highly recommend. Check it out.

2. Perfect Roast Turkey Recipe
Again, Martha Stewart is the clear winner here. This recipe makes for a great tasting turkey and the drippings will add a delicious dimension to your gravy. Derek recommends lightly stuffing the turkey with sweet oranges, sliced in quarters. The steaming oranges will help keep the turkey moist and the flavor off the oranges adds nicely to the drippings. When done cooking, discard the oranges (do not eat!).

3. Romaine's Cranberry Sauce
Many of us opt for cranberry sauce in a can, but making cranberry sauce is surprisingly easy. 1 bag of cranberries, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1 tablespoon orange zest. Add cinnamon and ground clove to taste. Add ingredients to sauce pan, bring slowly to boiling, stirring regularly until cranberries burst and gel.

It's Fritzy aka Frenchie once again!

Hey Bitches,

It's me again!!!! Fritzy a.k.a Frenchie (in Derek's eyes)...

So here's what's been going on since my last post... I've finally learned to get the caller's names right. I haven't mistaken anyone's name since! I told you guys I'd get it right! I'm learning to work the studio board more and more, and Donny is proud of me! I would've cared, but I can no longer associate myself with Donny since he truly believes that I look like Sherry Shepard. Puh-lease!!! Sherry wishes she had all this hotness. But I think Donny just thinks all black people look alike, so eventually I will find it in my heart to forgive him :) I told him he looks like Whoopi Goldberg, so we're even.

I remember a caller asked me, who am I more intimidated by...Derek or Romaine? And now that I had time to think about it, I'm not intimidated by either one of you bitches...lol... You guys are cool. You teach me more and more everyday what it takes to be a great radio host! You guys claim that you hate each other, but I guess that love/hate relationship is what works for radio. And I love it!!! And it also helps that Derek feeds me candy every now and then! How can I be intimidated by someone like that :)

I only have a month left to go and I'm sad. This is the best internship that I've ever done. I don't want it end, but I guess I gotta go sometime.

But I will never forget Katie's laugh, Derek's laugh (I mean who can forget that?), Romaine's complaints about her wife every now and then, and Donny's twerking!

But until then... I can't wait for more laughs to come, crazy guests, and of course, the crazy callers...And Katie- I will continue to wear cat hoodies in honor of you!

P.S- ...My Birthday is Dec. 21st and I expect a goodie bag full of dildos, sex books, and a DVD with Donny and Derek twerk battling :)

Fritzy = #TheBest
DNR = #TheWorst :)

Fritzy Cherubin

Hey Everyone,

My name is Fritzy, but that's MISS FRITZY to you!!! I am the new intern here at the Derek and Romaine show. I really don't like writing about myself because I feel like I'm on an "About Me" section on a dating website looking for a one night stand, but here goes;

First and foremost, I'm a Brooklyn girl, and don't you ever forget that! I am currently on my last semester at Brooklyn College. I am majoring in English and minoring in Television and Radio. I interned at Brooklyn College's radio station previously, where I was the host of my own show. I fell in love with the radio medium and decided that it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I applied for the SiriusXM internship in the hopes of learning how to be a better radio host. I'm happy that I got the opportunity to be on the DNR show. Even more happy, that I have mentors, such as, Katie, Donnie, and Derek and Romaine, of course, teaching me everything I need to know about the radio industry.

Here's what I learned(besides all the technical stuff);

1) Through Katie, I learned that cats really do rule the world
2) Donnie taught me that I "better WERK bitch!"
3) Romaine gave me a newfound love for artistic creativity.
4) Last but not least, Derek proved that laughing alot really does work your abs!

All in all, I love how Derek and Romaine make hosting look so easy, although it truly is alot of work. Now, I know what it truly takes to be a crazy, raunchy, dirty, but GREAT radio host.

P.S- I hope you guys don't get mad that I keep getting the callers' names wrong. I'll get it right soon :)

2014 DNR Show Listener Cruise

You've heard us talking about it and maybe you are thinking of coming along, but you aren't quite sure. Well, let me take a moment to spell it all out for you.

On March 15, 2014, Derek and Romaine and a bunch of listeners will set sail on the Caribbean Princess for a week of fun on the high seas and we want you to come along. This is our second DNR Cruise and we had such a good time, we couldn't wait to do it again. This time, we are sailing out of Houston and visiting the Western Caribbean. Prices start at just $749 per person!

Don't worry. Derek and Romaine are not the Captains.
We are not charging a premium to sail with us. The price you see on the Princess website is the price you will pay to join us. To help us organize our group (and make sure that everyone in our group is counted as part of it), we ask that you book your travel through The Cruise Boys. This will ensure you are invited to all DNR events on the ship, dinner seatings and more. If you are an existing Princess cruiser, be sure to let them know when booking. They will arrange everything for you, including giving you an itinerary of events and activities with Derek and Romaine and the other listeners.

This is a group sailing on a larger ship, so we are not taking over the whole ship. If the thought of an all-gay cruise scares you, or you are straight and love the show but aren't sure this is for you, don't worry. Everyone is welcome in our friendly group. As you will see from the comments and photos in the DNR Cruises group on Facebook, the listeners who joined us the first time out became very close and built friendships that will last a lifetime. Like summer camp, but with booze.

Some of the first brave pioneers on our inaugural cruise in 2013.
Even though there will be something every single day with Derek and/or Romaine, we encourage you to make the cruise your own. You can book excursions, explore the activities on the ship, and have an adventure all your own. We invite you to look over the amenities of the ship and the ports of call and find the parts of the ship and voyage that interest you. For instance, Romaine loves the casino! And karaoke. But mostly the casino.

Romaine's muster station was the casino. So convenient!
If you have any questions about the cruise, feel free to ask Robert at The Cruise Boys and he can answer whatever logistical questions you have. If you want to know more about what it is like to sail with Derek and Romaine, ask any of the listeners in the DNR Cruises group on Facebook. They will give you the full scoop. If you are a single traveler and are looking for a cabin mate, you can find one in the Facebook group as well.

But most of all, we think that if you have enjoyed laughing along with Derek and Romaine in your car, you will have just as good a time out on the ocean with them. And you'll meet other LGBT and yes straight people just like you who love the show and share your sense of humor and outlook. And all in a relaxed and casual environment. Isn't it time you got away? Join us on the 2014 DNR Cruise! Book today!

That sunset could be yours! Join us in 2014!

One Month In!!

Hey guys and gals! It's Michelle the intern writing to y'all! So it’s been about a month since I've been interning with the Derek and Romaine show and I absolutely love it! Throughout this month I've learned so much! Being a part of this show has opened up a whole new world for me! I've gotten to learn all the work it takes to produce a show and I've gotten to meet some awesome guests! One of the things I love about this show is that almost everyday there is a guest! It keeps the show entertaining and it's always nice to see a new face in the studio.

There have been so many guests in this past month that I've enjoyed each and everyone of them. I would have to say my top favorite guests would be, Miss Tiger, Alec Mapa and Scott Thorson, trust me there’s many more but these were the first few that I could remember!

Miss Tiger has to be one of the funniest bitches I have ever met! I've met Miss Tiger in the studio a few times and it’s been one the funniest times! When Miss Tiger is in the studio it’s always a good time!

Alec Mapa I sadly haven’t met in person but we did have him on the show via phone. He was also one of the funniest guest in my opinion! The entire interview was so funny, not to mention he was calling us from Disney Land!

Scott Thorson, well enough said! When I found out we were having him on the show with us, I almost couldn’t believe it! It was interesting to hear what he had to say about his experiences and his opinion on the movie: Behind the Candelabra.

One of the best days here was last week; we went on a field trip to the museum of sex! It was my first time actually going to this museum but I was super excited to go. We got invited to Fun Factory’s event promoting their new product the Stronic. It was a lot of fun to see their new products and we also got to explore the museum!

It's crazy to think that it's already been a month here with the gang at Derek and Romaine. I must say, there's not one day I don't want to come here. Everyday is another adventure here. I keep learning new things and meeting new people and it's a time that I'm cherishing. Although I still have two months left here at the Derek and Romaine show, the days are going by so quick I feel like before a blink of an eye it’s going to be over and my days won’t be filled with Sexpert questions and Derek’s laugh.

Well I’ll keep everyone updated with how the rest of my summer here at the Derek and Romaine show goes!

Peace and Love
Michelle =)

Tips for the 4th of July

Hey bitches, did you catch Wade Williams on the show. Here are his 4th of July tips:

1) Make anything you can the night before! So you won't have to slave away in the kitchen the day of the party.

2) Get decor items that you can use again. Instead of buying flower arrangements, go to your local nursey and get small potted plants. This way you can use them for your party and plant them in your garden later.

3)If you w...ant to add a special touch to your Summer Party. Make a specialty cocktail, which you can serve in a large jug or pitchers. Prepare several batched the night before. Fresh juices are abundant! Go for a unique flavor like (watermelon, strawberry or lime). Now you won't need a bartender!

4) Why should you make everything? Decrease your stress level by having each guest prepare their favorite dish. But no Ambrosia Salads...Please!! Specify that the dish contain no (Creams or Mayonnaise). You don't want to give your guest food poisoning.

It's been one month already....can you believe it!?!?!?

Hey Bitches!!!!

It's me again...just wanted to touch base with you all. This week makes one month since I've been interning on the DNR show, can you believe it?!?!?!? The time just flew by. I've had so much fun working on the show and I've learned so much at the same time. Don't you just love when something can be fun and informative all at the same time, it's like meeting a guy that's both cute and smart. Makes you feel like you won the jackpot...kinda.

So here are a few highlights that have taken place since I last spoke to you guys----> I received a vibrator duckie, I met Dennis Hoff and Brooke Taylor from HBO's Cathouse (love watching this show in the wee hours of the morning, you can learn so much from prostitutes), Scott Thorson, Sandra Bernhard, a few porn stars and I even went on a field trip with the DNR team to the Museum of Sex where we all recieved free dildos! Not too shabby if you ask me...lol. Then there are the DNR regulars like Miss Tiger and Hedda Lettuce, who I love. Whenver we have them on the show, these two queens usually have me laughing from beginning to end of the segment.

But aside from all the craziness, I've learned a lot about what it takes to put a show like DNR together.  I also have to hand it to Derek and Romaine for what they do because I'm sure it isn't easy to host a show every week for three hours a day and be entertaining all the way through but they make it look effortless. I just want to continue to soak up as much information as I can from the DNR team and have a good time in the process. Anways, I got to go now. I'll check in with you bitches later!  :)

Ashley Kay

Hello Bitches,

My name is Ashley and I'm one of the new interns here at the Derek & Romaine show. So what can I say about my self?

I just turned 23 last week!  I'm a Brooklyn Girl, so I might take some getting used to...if you're not a Jay-z fan you won't get that reference. I am going into my senior year at Brooklyn College. I'm a Communications major and I fell in love with the radio medium a few years ago when I interned at my college radio station, WBCR Brooklyn College radio. I now have my own show at WBCR called "The 411 with Ashley Kay", which I love, it's my baby. Feel free to check out my page at  www.facebook.com/The411withAshleyKay .

So anywho my love for radio eventually led me to Sirius XM Radio. I liked the Sirius Xm intern page a while back and I would always wonder to myself what it would be like to intern at Sirius, so I applied. Now I'm actually interning here!!!! Who would of thunk it? So far it's been really great interning on the DNR show. I've learned so much already and I've only been here a few weeks. I've learned so much shadowing Katie and Donny. I'm excited for this oppurtunity and just hope to make the best of it. Anyway, the show is about to start soon so I'll check in with you bitches later. Toodles! ;)

Michelle the Intern! =)

Hey everyone! My name is Michelle and I am one of the summer interns for the Derek and Romaine show. I started the first week of June and so far I must say, I am loving it here! Everyone is beyond friendly and I've learned so much in just a few days! Although I have much more experience to gain here, I am so looking forward to what's to come! Everyone here at Sirius Xm is beyond friendly! I must admit that at first I was beyond nervous to come in everyday, (especially my first day), but once the first day was over, I knew it was going to be a great summer!

On my train ride back to New Jersey, which is where I currently live in a small town called Union, I just kept thinking to myself how friendly everyone was to me! I knew that I was beyond lucky to get such an amazing opportunity to work with Derek, Romain, Katie and Donni and everyone else at Sirius.

So just a few fun facts about me, I'm born and raised from New Jersey! Sorry New York, I'm a Jersey girl at heart. I'm a senior at Kean University studying Communications: Film and Media, which makes this internship such an awesome experience for me because it's giving me a first hand experience at what I want to do in life! I have a HUGE obsession with dogs, especially Huskies! I have two dogs, Jacob Black ( Named after the hottie Taylor Lautner) and Snow ( Shes a husky! aka my favorite). I love hanging out with my sorority sister on my down time! I like going out to clubs with my friends, which is another perk of interning in the city, Pacha is only 15 minutes away! I'm in love with the city of Paris! I studied abroad there a year ago and I'm dying to go back ASAP! Something about those french men drive me crazy! =P

Well I hope this post gave everyone a little piece inside my life! Hope you all enjoyed and hope to hear from everyone soon!!! =)

Au revoir,

Michelle =)
